“This laser works at a frequency of 1.9 microns”

Anyone fancy teaching the writers any basic physics?

Whilst it’s wrong, you can almost accept that people use units of equivalence… such as meaning “the frequency which corresponds to a wavelength of 1.9 microns”. If the wavelength were more readily available information, and the frequency were more useful… I’d let them off… but I don’t know the rest of the article.

(Not quite similarly, but not completely unrelated, particle physicists will often refer to particle masses in multiples of eV (usually MeV or GeV) sometimes MeV/c^2.)

Somehow I can’t see some hack writer of schlock drama for the beeb thinking their way through that. They probably just thought that “micron” sounded cool.
