Expletive deleted

I’m no fan of pseudo-science and particularly when applied to medicine. One of the biggest problems in British medical life in recent years has been this MMR and autism thing. There’s an org called JABS which advocates the “MMR harmed my baby” opinion. Despite plenty of contrary evidence and no supporting evidence. It’s also been in the news that measles has hit its highest rate in years due in no small part to these well-meaning fools.

They also do forum.

Now on this forum they have some skeptics (e-i-e-i-o) and a few have been deleted, blocked, whatever. Most of these come from the BadScience forum (…”it’s just a link to the right….”) But one seems to have slipped through the net and given the best post I’ve seen on a net forum in ages. I’m copying it as I reckon it’ll be deleted in some short order. You have “Occam48″ to thank for this.

1 I’m not a BadScience blogger.
2 I’m an interested bioscientist who over the months has read some of the contributions to this site with amazement, eg advice not to take antibiotics (from 2nd most prolific contributor); “Evidence based medicine now that’s the biggest lie of all”; “Allopathic drugs” sorry but is insulin an allopathic drug, are antibiotics, are immunosupressants for kidney transplant patients, is the asprin you take for a headache etc etc.
3 The uncritical acceptance of alternative medicine and the absolute belief that the pharmaceutical industry is (a) 100% corrupt and (b) in a grand world wide cover up with various national governments, WHO UNICEF etc etc
I do accept that there have been some bad practices with some companies, I’m not blind to faults, see recent Sanofi case in US, but by and large the pharmaceutical industry is honest and highly regulated.
4 I genuinly believe there are parents on this site with autistic children who really believe vaccination was the cause of their problem.
5 The most convuluted arguements are put forward to refuse the very idea that vaccines might well have benficial effects (as well as side effects which I have never denied) instead of accepting the far simpler explanation that the vaccines are doing their job. The protective effect of vaccines has been demonstrated in many animal models.

Unfortunately Jackie the lack of willingness to accept that vaccines can have any protective effects, the uncritical acceptance of any alternative medicine and yes there is a strong placebo effect with homeopathy but that’s all, results in this site having zero credibility in the big outside world. If you really want to help vaccine damaged children & not be written off as a collection of “nuts” perhaps you should really look at yourselves as shown by the attitudes and pseudo science on this site as the first step, do you work with the major UK Autism charity, why is the only reference to MMR & autism on their web site a paper showing no linkage, or are they part of the conspiracy?.

Now done to specific answers

Minority View: No I’m not playing YOUR game. No-one cannot prove a negative, as Prurient sayes its up to you to show a credible (& testable) cause & effect hypothesis to link the the variety of diseases and the vaccines that you assert are the cause.
Your hypothesis of lifestyle/testing vaccinated & unvaccinated for protective effects is not worth discussing it would be totally immoral, when I provide evidence for polio & measles its not taken seriously NOONE has answered my repeated question re the European statistics in the 50’s & 60’s & since Rachel Carson’s book on DDT wasn’t published till 1962 yet the incidence of polio in Germany, UK & Netherland had dropped to very low levels prior to that following the introduction of mass vaccination DO LOOK AT FIG 1 in the paper.
Any more comments on Smallpox eradication program, or was that all misdiagnosis too?

Rosemary: 1000’s of Retroviruses please read a little further down the Wikipedia refernce where I think you will see that these retrovirus remnants have been part of the human genome for millions of years, in fact you cut & pasted the section in one of your replies states this

Nigerian polio vaccine fears Sorry but this was ridiculous and very sad for the Nigerians who unnecessarily caught polio. Again you cannot prove a negative, but why how could a few drops of vaccine given to a baby render that child infertile when an adult, you are not really taking this seriously are you see my earlier comment re the credibility of this site & conspiracy theories http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/low/world/africa/3313419.stm

You never know I might have some sympathy for the aims of this site & not be a pharma mole (or whatever) & just be trying to push you in a more constructive direction (or is that a conspiracy theory…)

Well done that man/woman/drug company stooge!
