More of a small world

Posted in Juggling, People, Work at 2:40 pm by alby

I had a meeting this lunchtime with a GP with special interest in musculoskeletal medicine. We’re hoping to set up a unified, multi-disciplinary team in the city and he’ll be more than useful I’m sure.

Anyway we’d not met before so he asked about background and qualifications etc.. I told him my history and he asked whether I had any special clinical interests. So I mentioned that I’m keen on shoulders and I mentioned my convention work as well:

  • “Oh you’re a juggler?” he says.
  • “Yes.”
  • “A good friend of mine’s a juggler. He’s really good, called Paul and lives in Leeds.”
  • “Is he a maths teacher?”
  • “Why yes!”
  • “Small world. I know him and used to juggle with him at the Woodhouse club in Leeds.”

It does keep happening to me. Wonder if that’s just a consequence of being old.

Have fun.

I’m doing so so well

Hurrah. Welcome to my world of wonder.

My cold lingers but is easing. Hurrah, the end of 2 weeks of snot.

But I woke up this morning to a sore throat. Had a look and hurrah! Tonsilitis! Magic. Anyone else want to give me any other diseases?

Harumph!

Photo updates

Posted in Blog, Bulgaria, Travel at 6:09 pm by alby

Right then. I’ve decided to develop the new gallery page at the expense of the Care2 gallery. There are a few good reasons – toppermost being that you can have the thing at full res (although none of the ones I’ve put on are at full-on 10M pixels).

I’ll prolly keep the Care2 gallery there as it costs nowt and some of the pics I no longer have the originals of.

Anyway in the new gallery you can now find a few repeat BG photos of this latest trip and some I’d not uploaded before; plus an album of BG house photos.

And by the way, if you know anyone who may wish to try this house/holiday/tour out in early summer next year then get in touch with them and me and they can have a cheap holiday with lots of stuff to do.

Have fun!

Flaming and pootling

I was cold last night so I called Clurb for assistance. As it was she and P turned up too late to offer assistance so we just chilled in front of a roaring fire. Ah a real fire, nowt better and that was my first of the season and worked remarkably well.

We also sat and nattered with DB who managed to get himself completely lost and confused by nattering to us online at the same time he was nattering to S. Cue tittering for a bit before he blue screened and had to call a halt to proceedings.

After they’d all gone away I had a go on my hosting site to see if they had the new version of WordPress (wot powers this page) to upgrade to. It seems they haven’t, at least not by last night, but it’s only a couple of days old so I’m not greatly surprised. But it turns out they do have the new version of “Gallery” which is a photo album thing. So I set that up and it seems to work. There should be a link to it where the Clurb link is. If I like it I may transfer all my galleries from Care2 (the “photos” link) on to here. After all it’s hardly as if I’m struggling for bandwidth.

So have a look and tell me whether it’s better/worse/not worth the bother.

Have fun.

Amazing

Always look on the bright side I say.

I’ve been ill for the last 10 days or so.  2 days off work last week from full on everything ache and for the last 7 days I’ve been bunged up in the nose and breathing tubes.

Over the last 3 days or so my body has decided to kick the mucus manufacturing into overdrive.  This morning I’m feeling like death warmed up again but the upside is that I get to marvel at just how much crap my body can kick out of places it’s not usually known for kicking crap out of.  I’d say that as a conservative estimate I’ve probably gobbed and snotted a good 100ml this morning so far and it shows no signs of abating, and my breathing is no better so there must be more shit down there.  So pleased I’m not a smoker.

Have fun.

Oh boo hoo!

Posted in People, Rants at 9:44 am by alby

On the way down to Bristol me and P stuck the radio on to listen to Armando Ianucci’s show.  Now on Saturday it’s preceded by “Money Box Live“, universally revered by capitalist swine and justly hated by anyone with any soul.

Now there are some people you naturally feel sorry for, yes?  People like, ooh I don’t know small children with some hilariously unjust disease or other.  OK so you don’t naturally feel sorry for many people.  But my point is that some people are more justly grumpy than others.

One bloke on Money Box was bemoaning his fate and bad luck.  Apparently the global credit “crunch” was affecting him terribly.

“I’ve tried to get a mortgage to add further properties to my portfolio of 30 or so properties in Reading but I’m unable to as no-one will lend in the current climate.”

Oh poor lamb.  It’s scum like this little shit who have ruined the housing market for people like me and the Plumpton-Bears.  When I was a kid, professionals could afford to live in nice areas.  Now, no chance, and it’s really not the immigrants’ fault (before the Mail readers start shouting).

Now if people like this actually got the hilariously nasty diseases we could all celebrate.

Have fun.

Actually just some pics.  Plenty better than the Bristol ones too.

Warning, a small section of these does indulge my “signs” fetish.

Have fun.

Briccies

Posted in Juggling at 8:54 pm by alby

Here’s some piccies from Bristol just gone. Not many at all and I don’t reckon they’re that good in the main either. Ah well.

They are the main ones but here are one or two more. Before I put the link on I should state that I’ve only taken them to blatantly and explicitly show my disdain for this bloody fashionable lack of caring about appearance; and then foisting it on other people who just happen to be nearby. Be warned they’re not pretty (and pic 2 is worse than pic 1). I mean, honestly!  What an arse.

Bristoling

Back from Bristol and a lovely time was had.

Me and P headed down there on Saturday at around 12.  We’d had a quiet evening in with Clurb and D watching the Mitchell and Webb fillum “Magicians“.  Really wasn’t a good fillum.  The leads only have their personas and are not great actors and the script was pretty dodgy to say the least.  But there were some nice little memorable moments and quotes (the most memorable being about wands and the law of averages).

So to Bristol.  Easy drive and the car was behaving nicely.  Pretty much the first person met was DB.  He was there with his new missus Suzanne whom Clurb will be happy to know is eminently suitable. P went to meet some folk so I did a wander and met a few bods.  I managed to completely throw Chiok by plonking myself next to him and commencing nattering.  We’ve met online quite a few times so I wanted to introduce myself properly and when he’d woken up he was happy to natter.  Tom Derrick and a couple of others were there too and the conversation was varied and interesting.  Then the games started and I wandered some more and met yet more folk.

Bumped into Lynne and did some passing with her, awkward as we were on the Bristol slope but some stuff was done before we gave up.

After meeting yet more folk a small bunch of us (me, P, DB, Suzanne and Tom) headed to the pub for dinner and was impressed with the steak supplied.

The walk back was interesting through fields and whatnot in the dark.

Then the rest of the evening was spent in the big top nattering and drinking Bulgarian beer (as sold at Tesco – I couldn’t believe it).  That was a nice couple of hours with a lovely bunch of folk.  Most of the time there was spent with Sarah (Mrs Silver) chatting about life in a new town and fun with the kids. T’other Sarah was there too so lots of jibing her re her accent and swearing on rec.j ensued.

To bed and I kipped in the back of my car.  Annoyingly the car is about 3 inches too short but was still a perfectly fine place to sleep.

The next day was less busy as most folk were packing up early to head off.  DB was rightly slightly unhappy as Suzanne was heading back to Holland.  The Talls headed off early and a bunch of us sat with Silver and Sarah watching the exodus ’til it was time for us to leave.

Home to tidy up and eat and sleep.  And a trip via Evesham – yet another whites only middle class place.  In fact they were so middle class that Morrisons didn’t even have a hot pie counter.  I know!  Shocking.

And now I’m back at work but expecting a new PC to be delivered at some point today.  Hurrah! [edit: hurrah again, got it!]

[final edit: Silver's gone and put up some bloody marvellous pics here.  Most impressed, well done.]

Have fun.
