Random number
Is it just me? Or does anyone else think that the government expelling 4 diplomats over the Litvinenko affair is decidely random?
Does the gov feel that these 4 had an influence over the Russian gov’s decision not to extradite a russian national (as their written constitution explicitly says)? If not then it’s an utterly random thing to do.
I see this as the Russians and the UK getting together and re-forming the 2 blocs in Europe again. It kept us all safe enough for a good long while and we’re less safe now so why not?
That and Russia has wealth now for a limited time but as we get less carbon dependent, that’ll change somewhat; so perhaps they’re just pushing for anything they can get quickly.
Of course the UK could just be playing into Russia’s leaders hand by giving them an instant bogeyman to create the climate of tribe vs tribe back in Russia. Always a more pliable population when there’s an enemy.
Is anyone proper worried about this? Who has more to lose here?
