It’s disctastic!
Or “spactacular”; whichever you prefer.
So the Juggle.tv guys got the BJC07 DVD out and my copy came the other day. So any thoughts so far?
First impressions were positive enough. Decent visuals and the music’s fine.
There are some annoying things that really, well, annoyed me and I hope the problems are down to space or timing issues or copyright stuff ‘cos otherwise it’s a pain.
The Goods:
- As with all convention videos it’s fun to try and spot yourself and friends.
- The gym stuff was pretty good showing stuff I missed like Bibi and Bichu showing off. And it showed me things that I wanted to see again like Dietz’s “autism chic” and his amazing sensible shoes.
- Bits of shows – seeing Wes’s and Get the Shoe’s routines again was good. I’m sure you all have your fave bits of the shows to watch again too.
- A bit of Wudjafuk – cut down to a mere snippet though probably on the orders of Garfield.
- Just reminding me that I had a really nice time there.
Mediums
- Stuff like the parade bores me but that’s prolly why I didn’t go on the parade.
- In-jokes – Cool for the 3 or 4 people involved but no-one else.
Bads
- Editing in some shows/routines – a tricky one this as they had some stick last year for editing the visuals whilst continuing the music uninterrupted meaning wild cheering when nothing spectacular was happening and badly timed music cues etc.. I assume they tried to reduce those sort of problems but it still sort of sticks out too much for me. Any chance of the unexpurgated versions of routines for the whingers like me? This was most noticeable in BYJOTY which is a shame as it was the best show of the convention.
- Dodgy acts – I tried to suppress some of the acts I saw that week and didn’t want to be reminded of 1 or 2 of them. Still I can’t ask for completeness and then ask for judicous editting on the grounds of artistic merit can I? NB Kudos for stopping the Britishish Cabaret immediately following Luke Wilson’s act though; well done.
- The games – my god how long do they last? Cut em out or down a hell of a lot more. Or leave ‘em on in an “unexpurgated footage” section – you know, like the BYJOTY routines.
- Screwing up the sound on William’s public show act. Seems the master of the DVD was dodgy hence the sound dies during this routine. A shame.
In general though I like the thing. The life around the convention bits are nice and memory-jogging; the good bits of the shows were all there and it’s not possible to please everyone all the time so well done.
I’m buying next year’s too.
Have fun.
