Was it in a cup?
A busy and frustrating weekend that seemed destined to get better but ended on a real downer.
Saturday was ok if very rushed. I went to my bro’s to pick up the car he gave me. I’d sorted insurance and needed to get it taxed. But the Post Office wouldn’t let me because I only had a photocopy of the registration docs. Quite why they care who taxes the car is a mystery. But then to Kings Lynn where my bro would meet me with the original document. The journey was ok apart from waiting nearly an hour at Leicester and then getting stuck in a jam from hell just getting into Kings Lynn. The wait was just long enough for me to miss the Post Office there which, rather quaintly, closes at 12.30.
So to their house and pick up car. Seems to work ok. It gets me home nicely without any problems. I managed to dash into town and taxed the thing at about 1 minute before the PO closed.
Drove K to work and noted that the battery light was on. It was on this morning too when I picked her up.
Then to D’s to have look under the bonnet to see if ‘owt needed doing. There wasn’t really. But he couldn’t put our CD player in as he didn’t have the key to get the old one out. Fair enough – that’ll be a 2 second job for some shop somewhere.
Took K to work again and then drove to P and C’s; no light on the dash – no problems. P had cooked in return for a freebie to the show tonight. Good stuff – I like P’s cooking. Oh and Clurb has finished her task of the month.
But the main news was the trip out to see a comedy night. The MC was very good if a little apparently startled at the beginning. Cue banter between him and the crowd. He asked if anyone had done something interesting. I said yes and we had a natter about me getting this car. It was quite funny. Not quite as funny as his chat with the camp, effete fop (think cane and baize jacket) in front of me. A new answer was given to the question “Which came first?” Apparently it’s not “the voice”.
First act was a Welsh comedian (Lloyd someone) and he was pretty good. I had mild banter with him too about holidays – (wasn’t very funny, but he did ask). Quite a good act.
MC on again and he gave us the funniest bit of the evening with a description of travel entertainments whilst on the road to a gig. This was notable for another thing. One woman asked the question that titles this post. It was hilarious and she had provided the cue for this hilarity. But when he followed up on it she went very arsey and sour in an instant. I don’t think she laughed again for the rest of the evening. Sourpuss. She should have been proud not defensive.
Next act was the weakest. Some bloke from Halifax. I impressed the crowd again with my knowledge of the inventions of people from Halifax. Well I just retain some stuff you know. As he died slowly at least he realised he wasn’t going well so got off quickly. A good move.
MC on again and then onto the headliner Mr Richard Keith Herring. Hmm. I’ve heard quite a bit of his act as he’s been on the radio a lot. The bits I hadn’t heard were definitely not going to get on the radio though. Clurb was appalled at how disgracefully filthy he was. Most was pretty funny. I am definitely going to start calling apples “sky potatoes” from now on.
A good evening then with a bit of a dud in the middle. Back to P and C’s to pick car up and go home (incidentally giving Rosie a lift too). But then the bummer. The car was completely dead. No power at all. The interior light was only just working. So the car is now still outside P and C’s place. My AA cover will get us to a garage but I have to find time to do it. Aaarggh!
Have fun.
